The spine everything else hangs off. Thailand first, then India — moving slowly enough that a place gets weeks, not days. The weekends below are side trips out of whichever leg we're sitting in.

Three families on the west coast at Loh Paret — one of two beaches on the island that still swims at low tide, and the best sunset on it. The sheet that decides the weekend: boat times, tides, and a deliberately over-long menu of places.

A land weekend north up Highway 4: national-park waterfalls, a mangrove river, an old tin-mining town, a cave. Sixteen candidates, seven of them actually reached — those carry a verdict and a real price. The other nine stayed leads.

The same weekend, planned for the other island, until it moved to Koh Yao Yai the day before. Kept because the Tha Len ferry research, the tide table and the scooter verdict all still hold — and because Yao Noi is still a live candidate for a future weekend.
